Welcome to the official page of GRIPDT, the first Artificial Rock-Climbing Gym in Dehradun and an initiative by Traveloft India.

Our journey began with a passionate group of individuals deeply involved in adventure sports like high altitude trekking, skiing, rock climbing and snowboarding. Eager to share the love for this thrilling life, they started exploring the Himalayas  for opportunities to climb, skii, recce trek and conquer new heights. As the passion grew, they began inviting friends to join them on these expeditions, forming a close-knit group of adventure enthusiasts.


Over time, what started as a personal endeavor started to evolve into something much bigger—a mission to develop a vibrant outdoor community in Dehradun. Recognizing the need for a dedicated space to practice and foster this exhilarating lifestyle, Traveloft was established.

The idea for GRIPDT, was born out of our experiences earned through our operations at Traveloft, which offered a range of adventure activities, including treks, snowboarding, skiing, climbing and more. However, during our outdoor climbing workshops at Maldevta, Dehradun, we always identified a need for a dedicated indoor facility. This realization, coupled with the challenges posed during monsoons, inaccessibility of the climbing site, distance from the city centre, and the recognition of rock climbing as an Olympic sport in 2022, motivated us to establish GRIPDT. Our goal was to provide climbers with a year-round training space, offering a controlled environment to hone the skills of climbers of all age groups.

 

This was a significant milestone that laid the foundation for what would give birth to GRIPDT, the premier Rock-Climbing cum outdoor .

GRIPDT stands for "Growth, Resilience, Innovation, Passion, Dedication, and Tenacity"—qualities that define our approach to rock climbing and our commitment to the community. Our facility offers an experience for climbers of all levels, from beginners to advanced athletes. In addition to our expansive rock-climbing walls, we are proud to provide a dedicated section for calisthenics, offering a holistic approach to fitness.

  • BOULDERING 
    Rock Climbing as a sport started developing in late 1800’s. 








    In the early stages boulders were used to practice, it was a form of training for larger ascent,
    it was taken as a playful exercise to exercise and build climbing strength and technique.
    In early 20th century in Fontainebleau area of France it st
    arted gaining popularity and then in the
    mid of the century “bouldering” was recognized as a separate activity.

















     
  • Our bouldering workshop is intricately designed for beginners, which answers their question, “ How to climb?”
    In this workshop of ours, we cover:
    •    Principles of climbing










    •    Getting to know about climbing techniques like feet movement, body movements, hand movements,
    hip movement, etc.











    •    Falling will be one of the most repetitive event you will experience when climbing hence it will be
    important to know proper falling techniques, of course we are going to cover it for you.











    •    Knowing about Holds and How to use them

  • In top rope climbing the climber is secured with a rope which runs through a fixed anchor point atop the
    wall face he/she is climbing and the rope is backed u
    p by a belayer, who, in turn provides safety to the climber.
    This type of climbing combines technique and endurance. You will be instructed started from beginner
    route as you progress to advanced levels.
  • By the end of the workshop you’ll be able to:-

    SAFTEY IS A MUST WHEN DOING ANY CLIMBING ACTIVITY. THE PROCESS BY WHICH WE
    PROVIDE SAFTEY TO THE CLIMBER IN BOTH TOP ROPE CLIMBING OR LEAD CLIMBING IS
    KNOWN
    AS BELAYING. THE ONE WHO PROVIDES THIS SAFTEY IS KNOWN AS BELAYER.















    THE UNIVERSALLY ACKNOWLEDGED METHOD OF BELAYING IS THE P.B.U.S METHOD.

  • THERE ARE DIFFERENT DEVICES WHICH ARE USED FOR BELAYING IN THE MODERN TIMES.
     
  • ATC/BELAY DEVICE – IT’S A COMPARATIVELY MODERN DEVICE. THE ROPE PASSES THROUGH THE FISSURE OF THE DEVICE AND THE TEETHS IN THE SIDE PROVIDE FOR THE FRICTION.

  • FIGURE OF 8 – IT IS A DEVICE IN THE SHAPE OF AN EIGHT. IT IS USED VARIABLY FOR RAPELLING OR BELAYING.

  • GIRIGIRI – IT’S A SELF LOCKING DEVICE USED FOR BELAYING. IT’S A TRADEMARK DEVICE FROM PETZL. SIMILAR DEVICES FROM DIFFERENT COMPANIES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET WITH DIFFERENT NAME.
