THE HANGING VALLEY

IMG_20211030_113533.jpg

Just like not all those who wander are lost, it is truly a great feeling to be lost in the right direction. Har ki dun valley lies amid the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, in the secluded northwestern corner of the Garhwal Himalayas.

“An amalgamation of the scenic beauty, ancient religion, various beliefs and legends associated to this place assuredly makes it one of the most numinous places in the country

At an elevation of approx. 3500m from sea level, it is a crib shaped hanging valley with pictorial views of the Bandarpunch massif, alpine meadows(snow covered during the winters), pine, chestnuts, chinnar and walnut forests all along the trek. Attributable to its impressive altitude and scenic views of a number of snow covered Himalayan peaks, this region has always been a favorite among trekkers for a long time now.

The valley remains snow-clad from October to March and is an outset point for more distant treks like:

1. Jaundhar Glacier

2. Maninda Tal

3. Borasu Pass

4. Baspa Valley

The trek offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the centuries-old forests that are rich in biodiversity and have an otherworldly charm. As you walk through the forest, the cool mountain air will invigorate your senses, and the sights and sounds of nature will soothe your soul.

One of the highlights of the trek is the dedicated section on Rhododendrons, located just beyond Bekaltal. This section of the forest is simply magical, with trees that are close enough to form a perfect green roof over your head. The Rhododendron trees have smooth and bare trunks that twist and turn in unique shapes and forms. The trees are not too tall and form a nice canopy at the top. The Rhodo forests are a treat to the eyes, and the beauty of these trees is unparalleled.

The Rhododendron forests are particularly impressive during the spring months of March and April when the trees bloom, and the forest transforms into a pink flowery roof. The sight of these magnificent trees in full bloom is simply breathtaking, and it's a moment that stays with you forever.

In winters, the Rhododendron forests are covered in snow, and the trees are transformed into a white snowy carpet. The sight of the snow-covered forest is equally mesmerizing, and the silence of the forest is punctuated only by the sound of your footsteps.

At bekaltal you camp for the night.
